KINNEY is a genre-spanning (dance, acoustic, folk) singer, songwriter, and dancer based in LA. She builds her art and music on contemplation, hoping to bring the listener into deeper connection with themselves and the world around them. Kinney—a performer at heart—has played at popular and not-so popular clubs, festivals, yoga classes, and plant medicine ceremonies. Following several successful singles, such as “Never Alone,” she put out her debut EP So Glad You Exist on August 31, which Billboard called “an electric lullaby.”

The seven-track project was produced in-house and released through Bad Owl, co-founded by Kinney herself. It is a love story of sorts, or a deja vu of an artistic awakening. The music itself is difficult to classify— it marries Kinney’s radiant voice, timeless songwriting, and acoustic guitar with unique, atmospheric production elements reminiscent of James Blake, Bon Iver, or Sylvan Esso. In Sputnikmusic’s review, they described her as a “creative force occupying a similar space as Imogen Heap: intriguing, a bit strange, but absolutely captivating.” “So Glad You Exist eschews traditional pop songwriting, vying instead to achieve an atmosphere worth sinking your ears and mind into,” they added. This EP is one that you can sit with in order to spark personal reflection and expand your gratitude for the human experience.

In Kinney’s own words: “I would whole-heartedly love to offer this music to people as a bit of respite and peace in this ever-evolving, crazy, confusion storm of 2020. I do believe ultimately it will serve to show us just how connected we are and how our individual actions impact everyone, forcing us to accept the unknown in a very real way.”

So Glad You Exist gained further traction on Apple Music and Spotify, landing in Apple Editorial playlists such as Breaking Singer/Songwriter and New in Singer-Songwriter. One of her standout tracks titled “Rx” was featured in the independently curated Spotify playlist, “Alternative Roadtrip.”

Bad Owl also secured a sync license for “Rx” in a documentary film, No Single Origin, which came out in September. The short film was produced by Home Storytellers, which is a non-profit organization that “uses the power of visual storytelling to amplify solutions to the refugee crisis.”

In conjunction with the Kinney’s EP release, she partnered with some of her favorite brands for a giveaway campaign. The thoughtfully curated gifts included recycled rubber yoga mats (from her own brand), CBD products, personalized journals, and one-on-one virtual performances for sleep or meditation, among others. The initiative is a prime example of Kinney’s boundless love and of her desire for fans to understand her story on a more personal level.

“If you have a minute (or 23) to lay down and listen, it’s a fun lil journey,” Kinney shared on Instagram. Stream So Glad You Exist now to embark on an incredible, worthwhile journey.
