"Rat Race" by TK Rhodes on Shameless

Bad Owl is excited to introduce our newest artist, TK Rhodes, which is a beautiful new collaboration between our artists and our production team.  On February 12th, TK Rhodes released “Rat Race,” an energetic and hard hitting female-rock track that’s the brainchild of Kyle Tkatch, Josh Lippi, and Bad Owl producer Samuel Murphy. Each of these artists have been extremely successful with other projects, and combining their creative forces has resulted in a song that is surely going to be stuck in your head for days. This collaboration has been a silver lining of quarantine shutting down live music and keeping Kyle and Josh at home in Los Angeles instead of on the road touring.

This track is upbeat, and powerful in a way that feels motivating. The guitar line carries the song, it charges forward and gives the song an unapologetic sound. Kyle Tkatch’s vocals on this track are also incredible, the combination of the singer’s tone and lyrics make the listener feel confident and empowered, which is something everyone deserves to feel right now.

The versatility of this song is probably one of the greatest things about it. The blend of the vocals and the instrumentals create a track that can be played at any time, and in any situation. Anytime you’re feeling like you need a little motivation, this is definitely the song to turn to. The upbeat rhythm will be able to pull you out of any bad mood, and have you feeling ready to take on anything.

The album artwork is another aspect of this project that deserves some praise, as it encompasses the energy of the track perfectly. The art was created by Bad Owl’s incredibly talented content team: Kitty Cullen, Kaitlin Stewart, and photographer Jeff Payne.

This song is the result of many creatives working together to create something great, and it’s clear that their hard work paid off phenomenally. This track was recently featured in the hit show Shameless, which is a show known for having a fun, cutting edge soundtrack. The visionary behind the Shameless soundtrack is Ann Kline, whose supervision on the show has been recognized by the Guild of Music Supervisors with three nominations for Best Music Supervision.  Bad Owl worked with Ann to feature “Rat Race” on two different episodes of Shameless during its final season.

Bad Owl is thrilled to be releasing this track during such a pivotal time for women: Kamala Harris was recently inaugurated as our first female Vice President, and the U.S. watched poet Amanda Gorman speak at both the Presidential Inauguration and the Super Bowl. This powerful, unapologetic track is a great anthem, and hopefully will make it onto the playlists of women everywhere who are working towards achieving their dreams.
